K&B
wE'RE kAREN & bEN - tHE ROOTED MISFITS

We're a midlife empty-nester couple living on a quiet Eastern Canadian Lake, surrounded by trees, wildlife, our micro-campground, two rescue beagles, and just a little bit of chaos. Our property is a patchwork of passion projects - some hand built, some half-planned, but all full of heart. We didn't always embrace this life-style. It wasn't until a life-altering event propelled us to re-think our priorities that we decided to make a U-turn. We're still in the thick of it all but are unapologetically quietly quitting city life and cutting our new trail as we go (literally and figuratively). Our blog is a way of sharing our story along with the mess and magic of the life we're now creating.

Welcome to Tupper lake!

Tupper Lake is located in central mainland Nova Scotia in the community of Westfield. It comprises of four sections that are all connected by narrow channels. You'll find islands dotting the largest part of the lake at the East end as well as a magical river that runs into it. Tupper Lake is a relatively rocky and shallow lake that is teeming with a variety of wildlife which makes it ideal for exploring. Fishing and non-motorized water sports such as swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding are popular activities. Fish species include small mouth bass, trout, cat fish, eels, yellow perch and gaspereau. We have two types of turtles native to the lake: Snapping Turtles and Painted Turtles. Mammals residing in the lake are beavers and otters. You can also find white tailed dear, black bear, coyotes and smaller animals such as raccoons and porcupines relying on the lake for water and food sources. Development is increasing but the area mostly attracts land owners that respect and enjoy nature.  This photo is taken from our "solstice point" area where on summer solstice the sun sets directly in the middle of the channel. The nearby causeway and bridge is a popular place for landowners and locals alike to come and watch our phenomenal sunsets. We often take our pups for sunset walks and we think they enjoy it as much as we do. Tupper Lake is very special to us and has definitely become a major factor in our simplified wholesome lifestyle.
